Cozy life-sim and RPG games on iPhone

Cozy life sims and gentle RPGs on iPhone: what separates them, what to expect, and why Markhor Meadow is a life sim, not a combat RPG.

The short answerCozy life sims are about daily life: neighbors, homes, routines and small goals. Cozy RPGs add a story, quests and often some adventure or combat. Markhor Meadow (coming soon to iPhone) is a life sim and village builder: it has requests, a village project chain and trips into the mountains, but no battles or levels to grind.

Life sim, RPG, or both?

  • Life sim: routines, homes, relationships, decorating. You set your own goals.
  • Cozy RPG: a main story, quests and progression, sometimes light combat.

The life-sim side of Markhor Meadow

  • Ten residents with personalities, favorite things and their own schedules: early risers and an evening crowd.
  • Requests on arrival, small daily asks and a furniture wish for each resident.
  • Morning letters, weekday events, a seven-day calendar and a weekly festival.
  • Day and night, four seasons, rain and snow.

The RPG-like parts

  • A village project chain that unlocks new buildings and recipes.
  • Village levels that open longer trips, such as the eight-hour High glacier.
  • Zarif, the winged snow-leopard merchant, with blueprints and weekend treasures; and the sky dragon, which grants a wish on the summit.

What it does not have

No combat, no character stats, no party and no multiplayer. If you want a long scripted story with some adventure, a dedicated cozy RPG is a better fit.
